WORLD Vs. WORLD sign to DMR

August 23, 2012

It’s that time again when we get to announce another new signing to the label and we’d like to welcome Swansea based trio WORLD Vs. WORLD.

WORLD Vs. WORLD are another of the stalwarts of the Swansea music scene, racking up an impressive number of shows across the region in the last year alone. With their roots firmly in alt. Rock, they maintain a strong punk influence and sensibility, mixing progressive song writing, alongside raw power chord thrashing riffs.

WVW provide their own flavour of political commentary, delving into the murky world that go’s beyond day to day politics and strays into conspiracy, concentrating on the clandestine agencies and hidden persuaders that shape our lives through manipulation of power and pulling the strings. This overriding concept is behind a lot of the songs they write and from where they get their name.

World Vs. World have previously self released two E.P’s ‘Our Own Personal Tabloid’ (2007) and ‘The Six Degrees of Separation’ (2009) while building their fan base through a constant presence on the scene throughout South Wales. WVW head into the recording studio with Death Monkey shortly, to start work on their first full length album.

DMR JULY Showcase

June 18, 2012

We’ve got a Showcase event coming up next month at THE GARAGE Swansea.

Joining label stalwarts CONDUCTORS, NPF and Acoustic Punk Troubadour ADAM AVIT!, we’re really stoked to have FLUFF TONGUE join the bill for the night, a band who are making some serious noise for themselves amongst the South Wales Metal and Alternative community, with their self dubbed sound of GRETAL (GRUNGE METAL)

It’s a FREE EVENT thanks to our partnership with the G.O.M.C (Garage Original Music Community) for this one.

The G.O.M.C are a collective of local representatives and Artists from the Swansea music scene promoting live original music as a counterpoint to the plethora of rock covers bands that are abundant in Swansea right now.

The Showcase takes place July 5th, 8pm @THE GARAGE uplands.

100,000 BODYBAGS Join the Roster

May 29, 2012

Legendary Welsh Punk band 100,000 BODYBAGS have joined Death Monkey to produce and release their next album.
Bodybags have a long and history spanning over 20 years and are one of the few underground Punk bands in Wales still going strong to come out of the second wave of punk in the early nineties.

100,000 BODYBAGS 1994 single ‘Problem’  was released to much critical acclaim and it was anticipated by fans and the industry alike that they would join the ranks of alternative elite, acts who were shooting to meteoric success at the time. However, a reputation for outrageous comments and their frenetic live performances preceded them. A riot at one of their shows at a club in London, which the band were accused of inciting, curtailed their burgeoning career and they were subsequently dropped by their label ‘Damaged Goods Records’.
After their experiences with Damaged Goods and various other indie labels, BODYBAGS made the decision to self release for a number of years, pursuing their artistic freedom and desire to experiment while doing things on their own terms.

So it is with much excitement and reverence that we welcome 100,000 BODYBAGS onto Death Monkey Records! We’ve been fortunate enough to have BODYBAGS play for us on our showcase nights in the past and it was obvious from early on that they not only put on a kick ass punk rock show, but share the labels values and vision for the alternative scene across South Wales.

BODYBAGS hit the studio next year to record their new material for a 7 track mini album which we’ll be working on and released through Death Monkey. Check back for more news from the bags and their impending release!!

‘Nine Plan Failed’ join Death Monkey Roster

July 22, 2011

Post Punk heroes  nine plan failed have joined Death Monkey to release their debut EP, to be recorded later this year with DMR.

Swansea trio ‘nine plan failed’ have been playing throughout South Wales relentlessly over the past two years and have built up a strong cult following for their unique brand of Oi! Oi! Oi! Punk, mixing screeching Guitars, Bass led riffage and tribal drums with Sardonic pop melodies and aggression.

Expect for the band to deliver a notable and much anticipated first release when they enter the studio with the label in the coming months.
