How We Do It...
At DEATHMONKEY, we’re obsessed about providing music fans with the most banging, highest fidelity recordings from our eclectic roster of underground artists.
Our in-house producer and engineer, Dave Milsom, has over 20 years of experience in the industry and is known for his ability to capture the raw energy and emotion of a performance in his recordings. DEATHMONKEY artists often collaborate closely with Dave from the start of the recording process, initially working with him out of a network of trusted local studio partners, or bringing in their own recordings for mixing and mastering.
In our dedicated post-production studio, Dave uses his skills and expertise, to mix and master our releases to the highest possible standards. We ensure that every song on our releases achieves a timeless quality that will blow listeners away, so that fans can enjoy their music in the way the artist intended their songs to be heard and felt.
We support our artists to reach as wide an audience as possible by distributing our releases to stores and streaming providers worldwide. Our high-quality production standards help ensure that their music stands out from the noise, and we work with artists to develop marketing and promotion campaigns to amplify their reach and impact.
At DEATHMONKEY, we’re proud to be a partner to our artists in their journey to create and share their music with the world, with our record production process an essential part in helping them get their music heard and create a truly unforgettable experience for their fans.

FAQ
Do you only work with signed artists?
Death Monkey’s label services are for artists signed to the label, but we’d love to help you mix your music! Our producer, Dave Milsom, is available for freelance mixing and can be contacted at davemilsom@recordmixer.studio
Where is your studio located?
We’re not afraid to get around! We record out of a network of local studios in South Wales, where we’re based, and our own post-production studio facility at our Swansea HQ for overdubs, vocal recording, and mixing and mastering. This means we can offer our artists a variety of recording options to suit their needs and work at a pace that works for them.
Does the label cover the cost of recording?
At Death Monkey, we work in true partnerships with our artists in all matters. That’s why we split the cost of recording 50/50, with artists covering the initial studio rental fee and the label providing a skilled Engineer and Producer. This joint investment helps demonstrate our shared commitment to the project in the early stages. Moving forward the label will also then cover the upfront cost of mixing and mastering along with an array of label services and additional support.
Do artists ever end up in debt to the label?
No, artists do not end up owing the label money. However, artists are expected to recoup some of the costs associated with recording and promotion through album sales. If the artist’s music does not generate enough revenue to cover these costs, the artist will not be personally in debt to the label.
Do artists retain ownership of their songs?
Artists always own the copyright to their songs, even after they sign a recording contract. The label owns the rights to the specific recordings of the artist’s songs released, but not the songs themselves. A core function of a record label is to manage and protect this copyright, which allows them to reproduce, distribute, promote and license the recordings, while also recouping investments and generating royalties for the artist.
