Sarah Birch ‘The Ballad of Peter and Jane’ Album Launch @ Cinema & Co.
We’re dammed proud and excited to be announcing that Sarah Birch‘s NEW LP ‘The Ballad of Peter and Jane’ will be launching next month at Cinema & Co. on April 19.
It’s the first solo album to emerge from the heralded Lost Tuesday Society songstress as she departs from the groups signature folk sound. Elements of electronica and sweeping string quartet arrangements lift her solo work into an alternative space as Sarah’s explores the concept album format, telling the tale of the contentious relationship of her titular anti-hero’s and their dissonant romance .
The April 19 Swansea date is the first in a series of show in a tour to promote the album, with a follow-up second leg planned forlater in the year. A second Launch date is also soon to be announced at Tiny Rebel Cardiff.
For the launch shows Sarah will be joined by a full complement of musicians, many of whom were drafted in from the local scene to perform on the album. For later dates audiences will get to experience a stripped back set and revolving guest appearances throughout the tour.

It was truly an awesome evening and easy to see why the venue has been given the moniker “TJ’s of the Valley”, however…. it’s clear The Dragonffli is legendary in it’s own right and the heart of the scene in Pontypool.

This means we can deliver more NEW and exciting local music from the region and in a faster turnaround than when we are busy working on full albums and productions for our roster.
Windshake have been profilic in releasing a steady stream of DIY recordings over their existence and fans have hardly been able to keep with their creative output. ‘ACCEPT IT FROM ME’ is their first official studio recording and collaboration with DEATHMONKEY recorded at Abertawe Rd Studio by in house DMR producer Dave Milsom.

SoundBoard Magazine Launch!
The 26th October sees the launch of the NEW SoundBoard Magazine. One of the very first projects to come out of the newly formed Welsh SoundBoard Co-operative, the mag will focus on the music scene and culture in Swansea and the South West of Wales. It’s a Monthly publication will be available from all sorts of venues and music related outlets across the region, it’s also FREE!
Wha’s to love about SoundBoard Magazine is that it’s more than just a fanzine, it’s going to be published on A4 and in full colour on textured paper, providing not only a news and entertainment product, but also something of quality and that is collectible. It will be a symbol of the hard work, dedication and love that all the musicians, fans and people working in the local music industry put into their local scene, reflected back at them.
The magazine is run by a small team and is taking contributions from an array of creatives from the region. This is exactly the sort of initiative that we need more of and which keeps the local music community connected. Not that there haven’t always been fanzines and local publications to fulfil this role, but there’s not as many of them about these days as blogs on online content become more prevalent. There’s a place for everything but SoundBoard creates an experience that can only exist in the real world and heightens the enviroment and the culture that surrounds it.
It’s also important because at its heart the magazine is DIY run by people who care about their scene and not to create a profit beyond the advertising revenue it needs to exist in the first place. We love fanzines and music mags for the same reason we love record shops and going to gigs. Having a tangible connection to your environment in a world that increasingly virtual makes all the difference in sustaining a music scene. Music at its core is a social experience, when you listen to music you are connecting with people, their feelings, emotions and ideas, so anything that exists within the community, for the community, by people in the community can only strengthen and enrich that experience. Well done SoundBoard Mag peeps, long may you reign.
There will be a launch party for SoundBoard Magazine at The Waterfront Museum in Swansea on October 26. The event is FREE but you will need a ticket.

Sarah Birch to Record Her Debut Solo Album for DMR
It’s about time we let slip that Sarah Birch of festival favourites Lost Tuesday Society is recording her debut solo Album for Death Monkey Records! Work is already underway and Sarah was at Abertawe Road Studios this week with producer Dave Milsom and some special guests.
The illustrious Mavron Quartet came down to the studio to record string parts for several of the songs on the upcoming album, which is due for release early next year. Sarah worked with the prolific Cardiff based arranger Sebastian Goldfinch to write the Quartet parts, who is also known for being part of the Welsh electro duo Cotton Wolf.
Sarah Birch is best known as lead singer in alternative Folk troupe Lost Tuesday Society and has been slowly gathering material for a solo album over the past year. The Ballad of Peter and Jane is a concept album about a dysfunctional relationship, while mainly Folk based, the production process has seen Sarah explore a more contemporary sound with hints of electronica, as well as a few guest appearances from the local scene.
