Death Monkey Records Signs Eyesore The Minotaur
+ Shares Debut Single “Gloves Up!” (Out March 1st)
Some projects announce themselves loudly. Others arrive fully formed, already knowing what they are.
Death Monkey Records is proud to welcome Eyesore The Minotaur, the latest project from Swansea musician and artist Guy Challenger.
Guy’s presence in the Swansea music scene has been consistent and meaningful for many years. Through music, writing, artwork and independently run projects, he’s helped shape and sustain the culture around him, often choosing to build things himself rather than wait for permission. That commitment to DIY practice, to making and supporting work at ground level, has left a lasting impression.
Eyesore The Minotaur brings that depth of experience into sharp focus. The project feels considered and assured, built patiently rather than rushed into view. While it sounds like a band, it’s currently shaped by one hand, and that singular vision allows the songs to move on their own terms rather than conform to expectation.
The debut single “Gloves Up!” is released on March 1st. Rather than relying on familiar quiet–loud contrasts or verse–chorus cycles, the track moves forward in a single, deliberate motion. It begins with restraint, gradually gathering weight and density, each section adding pressure until it reaches a cathartic, explosive conclusion. The impact comes not from contrast, but from commitment to the march.
The artwork, designed by Guy himself, speaks the same language as the music. Direct, purposeful and unforced, with sound and image operating as parts of the same world rather than separate statements.
Eyesore The Minotaur moves with its own internal logic. The songs take their time, open gradually, and often refuse to resolve where you expect them to. Structures bend. Perception shifts. Familiar shapes appear, then quietly change form.
There’s a sense of play in that refusal to settle. A willingness to test the usual rules of songwriting, not to dismantle them, but to see what happens when they’re nudged, stretched, or briefly ignored. The result feels exploratory without being abstract, grounded without standing still.
This is alternative music that isn’t chasing reinvention, but allowing new directions to emerge naturally. It trusts the listener to stay curious, to follow the turn rather than demand the map.
We’re stoked to be working with Guy on Eyesore The Minotaur and where this project’s heading as it continues to evolve and take shape.
